On June 9, De Graafschap participated in a special edition of the Football Memories project at Goffertstadion. Seniors from De Graafschap and Heracles Almelo traveled to Nijmegen to reminisce about football with N.E.C. participants. This project is specifically aimed at seniors, with a focus on individuals with (early-stage) dementia, providing a safe and enjoyable environment for social interaction. The event attracted over a hundred seniors, who shared memories and laughter. Participants quickly bonded over their shared passion for football. After introductions and a World Cup quiz, they enjoyed a catered lunch. Guide Peer took the group on a tour of the stadium, sharing stories about N.E.C.'s rich history. Project leader Jort Klomphaar expressed satisfaction with the day: “It was wonderful to see participants from different clubs reconnecting through their shared love for football. This exchange between N.E.C., De Graafschap, and Heracles Almelo highlights how powerful football can be in bringing people together.” The collaboration between the clubs created a special afternoon filled with connection and joy. The event underscored the importance of football in the lives of seniors and the value of social interaction. De Graafschap continues to commit to the community and strengthen ties among supporters, regardless of club colors. Events like this are crucial for preserving memories and creating new friendships.
